Grand Canyon North Rim
One of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon is an enormous chasm spanning 277 miles. An average of one mile deep and 10 miles wide from rim to rim, the Grand Canyon is an amazing geological spectacle that boasts an excellent record of three out of the four eras of geologic time. It displays many different types of rock, fossil specimens, and caves containing significant biological, geological and paleontological resources. One of the things visitors will remember most are the panoramic vistas along Grand Canyon trails, including short, easy North Rim hiking trips to amazing viewpoints.
When you hike North Rim trails, you will enrich your experience by taking along one of GeoQuest’s GPS rangers, which can be your trail guide navigation system. You do not need to take a park ranger-led tour when you have the audio and visual presentations available on handheld tour guides, which provide background information on points of interest once you reach them along the trail or road. Our handheld navigation systems can be your GPS park guides for Grand Canyon and other national parks in the Grand Circle.
One of the first North Rim trails visitors hike after they arrive is the trail to Bright Angel Point (N 36 11.584, W 112 02.884), whose trailhead is located at the Grand Canyon Lodge. The trail, which is steep in places and contains drop-offs and stairs, leads to impressive views into Roaring Springs (N 36 11.700, W 112 02.100) and Bright Angel Canyon (N 36 06.034, W 112 05.717). Other North Rim hiking trails you will not want to miss are the paths to Cape Royal (N 36 07.050, W 111 56.900), which boasts a view of the Desert View Watchtower on the South Rim across the canyon, and Point Imperial (N 36 16.700, W 111 58.616), which is the highest point along the North Rim at 8,803 feet. Another worthwhile North Rim trail is Roosevelt Point (N 36 13.084, W 111 57.133), a secluded woodland loop that offers spectacular views and wooden benches where you can relax and enjoy the scenery.
Whatever trail you decide to explore along the North Rim, let a GPS Ranger be your Grand Canyon National Park hiking guide!
